Is this course right for me?

Find out here with these FAQs

  • Who is this course for?

Anyone starting a new phase in their career in medical writing, either as a job seeker or freelancer. The group isn't strictly limited to medical writers in med comms - previous groups have included editors, regulatory writers, and people exploring client services. You don't have to be new to medical writing, just starting a new phase of your career.

  • Will this course teach me medical writing?

This course includes tasks to help you launch your career, and includes support with CVs, cover letters, writing portfolios etc. If your goal is to understand more about medical writing and gain more skills, you can join this course alongside the Foundations of Excellence training programme, also available on Thinkific.

  • How many people are in the group?

We limit each group to a maximum of 8 people, to ensure each member receives sufficient support throughout the 12-week programme. If the current group is full, you can reserve a place on the next intake. The groups run once per quarter, starting in Jan, April/May, June/July, and then Sept/Oct.

  • What if English is not my first language?

I know many successful medical writers whose first language is not English. However, medical writers must display excellent standards of written English for their clients. I advise mentees to take the test below and ensure they have proficiency of level B2 or higher before joining the course: https://learnenglish.britishcouncil.org/english-levels/understand-your-english-level

  • What time are the group calls?

Group calls are usually held in the early evening UK time, every other week. If you are not able to attend a call, you can catch up on the discussions by watching the meeting recording. Group members can also get support at any time throughout the programme through a dedicated WhatsApp group.

  • Can I fit this course around my day job/childcare?

Flexibility is a fundamental part of the course. The tasks and personal development can all be done at your own pace and to fit your own schedule. The only fixed time requirement is for the online group calls - and these require only one hour of your time every two weeks.

  • Will I get a new job/client by the end of the 12 weeks?

There's no guarantees when it comes to starting a new career! Some people get started quickly, while others need more time. The course will get you in the very best position for you to present yourself in the best light to potential employers/clients.

  • When will this course start?

The groups run once per quarter throughout the calendar year, starting in Jan, April/May, June/July, and then Sept/Oct. The exact start dates are decided once the group is full.

Sarah's Accountability group was excellent. She gave us great direction in how to prepare for getting work in med comms, and the fortnightly Zoom meetings required some accountability in getting those preparations done. She's an experienced hand in the industry, so that gave me the confidence she knew what she was talking about and this wasn't just another "coaching" program with big promises. In fact, she kept expectations realistic, and helped us work within the limitations of other obligations in our lives. I highly recommend the programme. Matthew
